The story centers around Justin Cobb (Lou Pucci), a young high schooler that has a childish obsession with sucking his thumb. His parents, Mike and Audrey (Vincent D’Onofrio and Tilda Swinton) try in vain to help him stop sucking his thumb. Mike has a huge problem with it. Audrey is obsessed with a TV star, Matt Schramm (Benjamin Bratt).
Justin is on the debate team. He is not doing so well by his teacher, Mr. Greary (Vince Vaughn), because he is attracted to fellow debater, Rebecca (Kelli Garner).
Justin often visits a trippy, mental health guru dentist, Dr. Lyman (Keanu Reeves). Some other bullshit happens that I don’t care about.
As a person that used to suck his thumb, I hated the portyral of thumbsucking as a disorder or something. It could be a coping mechaism. It could be a symbol for latent homosexuality. For example, myself.
In this movie, it was something that is solved by drugs and his is super genius. WTF!
This is a train wreck of a movie. Don’t watch this film.
My rating: * 1/2 stars.
