Surfer, Dude (2008)
I have to be honest with you. I heard about this movie, Surfer, Dude when I saw that Matthew McConaughey had a nude scene in the movie. I’m there. The man is so hot and he delivers on that promise with this movie.
If you are a gay man, this movie is your wet dream come true. In every frame of this film, Matthew is very tan and shirtless. The nude scene comes when he is playing the didgeridoo. It’s very reminiscent of the infamous naked bongo playing in his backyard.
Enough with my silly schoolgirl crush. This film is about world famous surfer, Steve Addington that is coming to US from riding waves around the world to find their are no waves to ride. This obviously shakes him to his very core, because surfing is life to him. The waves are like his blood, his essence, his very being.
There is the antagonist of the film, Eddie Zarno (Jeffrey Nordling), an unscrupulous producer of a reality show tries to corrupt his pure nature and tries to mass-market him. It’s like selling his soul to the devil in Steve’s eyes.
As long as there are no waves, he doesn’t indulge on hedonistic pleasures like sex or marijuana. He meets a woman from the reality show, Danni (Alexie Gilmore) and they take a trip to Mexico to help him find the waves.
This movie is about the seemingly philosophical journey of Steve with the help his manager (Woody Harrelson), surrogate father (Scott Glenn) and the inevitable cameo of Willie Nelson.
It’s fun fluff. That’s all.
My rating: **1/2 stars.
