Hairspray (2007)

I was into “Hairspray”. I saw this in the theater when it opened last summer. It was based on the Broadway hit based on the 1988 movie of the same name.

I have to say that John Travolta’s voice bothers me. He had the “Baltimore accent” when speaking that when he sings. He sings in his regular voice. What’s up with that?

I had the soundtrack and listened to it endlessly. I knew that there were gonna be cuts. They cut out “It Takes Two.” I love that song.

Anyway, I liked the film. It was a fun ride.

They took away the black comedy/campiness of the original film and stage production. Shame.

The most effective part of the film was Motormouth Maybelle’s rendition of “I Know Where I’ve Been.” Wow.
