Things We Lost in the Fire (2007)

I have to say this before I review this movie, “Things We Lost in the Fire”. Have you ever heard of a black woman named Audrey? I have to say that. I know that the role Halle played was intended for a white woman, but come on people.

I caught this movie and I have to say that this movie was vastly overlooked last year with all the “Juno”, “Michael Clayton”, “There Will Be Blood” hype.

The movie is about Audrey, a widowed mother of two children is mourning the loss of her husband (David Duchovny) that was shot. The events take place in the aftermath of such a tragic event. She meets an old friend of her husband’s, Jerry Sunborne, a recovering heroin addict that is struggling to get his life back on the sobriety track.

The story is mainly about two broken people trying to put their lives back together and ultimately, they take solace in each other.

I have to say that Benicio del Toro gave a heart wrenching performance as Jerry. There is a detox scene is so raw and real that it makes you turn away.

I like the natural lighting. It’s like a film noir in some aspects. See this movie. It’s sad, but it’s not depressing.
