The Brave One (2007)

I have seen Jodie Foster’s latest film on Cinemax before it came to HBO tonight. I have to say that I have mixed feelings about this movie.

I am sure that you get the jest of the movie from the trailer. Jodie and Naveen Andrews are walking in Central Park at night—big mistake—with their dogs and a couple of thugs beat them down. She is hurt. He gets killed. The dog is taken from them.

I totally understand that she would be scared out of her gourd after that incident. I think one scene that was brilliant was after she comes out of the police station and all the sounds around her are heightened to the nth degree. The screen turns white. I loved that.

Then, she becomes a vigilante and kills the guy the convenience store, I was like, “Okay?” She doesn’t show any emotion afterwards. No remorse or anything.

When she kills those thugs on the subway car, I was like this is getting ridiculous. She likes the thrill of the kill.

I have to say that the ending was heroic. I understand it, but it thought it was unethical for Terrence Howard’s character to do that. That’s all I have to say.

Skip this movie.
