Quills (2000)

I stumbled on this movie a couple of times on cable and I was enthralled by the story the last days of the Marquis de Sade.

This is the first time that I saw the movie in its entirety. I have to say that I really appreciate Doug Wright’s words here. It’s an acquired taste for some people, but I like the bawdiness of the language and innuendo. “Quills” is the blackiest of black comedies that I have ever seen.

See this film for Geoffrey Rush’s performance as the Marquis de Sade. The film also stars as Kate Winslet as the laundress in the asylum where de Sade is, Joaquin Phoenix as the abbe that has relationship with the laundress, and Michael Caine as unorthodox doctor watching over the abbe’s role in the insane asylum.

Watch this movie if you have an affinity for toilet humor and preserve imagery.
